Re: Metallica Ride the lightning demos
Hi guys, I finally succeeded to get the new vinyl of RTL demos.
there are some real unreleased material that never appeared before. The known tracks are trapped under ice (instrumental version from the original studio recording), fight fire/creeping/RTL/Ktulu, taken from the known demo/pre production with james on rough teenage vocals. The real unreleased stuffs are "for whom the bell tolls" (a sort of instrumental rough mix from the original recording with a rough snare drums sound) and a very long ending break, "fade to black", closer of the original but instrumental. In the beginning, I believed that "for whom" and "fade to black" had been done by mixing the guitar heroes master tracks, but it's not the case because the tracks are much more rougher than the guitar heros tracks. And "For whom' has a little blank in the middle (a sort of damage of the magnetic support). So it's a real jewel.
cheers

Pretty sure 'Tallica is on record saying they didn't really demo RTL like the other records. They had a few songs on tape but the rest of it was written / recorded in the studio, hence no demos existing. I think it's probably a fake.

Ride the Lightning demo
The Ride the Lightning demo was released on October 24, 1983. It was the group's first demo recording to feature lead guitarist Kirk Hammett. The demo contained the original material Metallica had written that was not released on Kill 'Em All. Both "Ride the Lightning" and "When Hell Freezes Over" (later re-named "The Call of Ktulu") were co-written by Dave Mustaine. "Fight Fire with Fire" and "Ride the Lightning" had been changed from their original versions due to input from Cliff Burton. All four songs appeared on the band's second studio album Ride the Lightning. The four demos for Ride the Lightning were recorded at the expense of Metallica's European record label, Music for Nations, at the same time the band recorded versions of "Seek & Destroy" and "Phantom Lord" to be used as fake "live" b-sides for the "Whiplash" and "Jump in the Fire" singles.[1] In 2005 seven other re-recorded demos surfaced on bootlegs. Out of the seven demos that surfaced, only "Trapped Under Ice" was confirmed as an official demo.

Re: Metallica Ride the lightning demos
Maybe these are not Guitar Hero Tracks. They could be rough "working in progress" mixes. Remember, such a thing does exist of Holier Than Thou. I personally did not get hold of that demo vinyl yet. But why would someone take the guitar hero mixes, add some errors here and there and fake the demos?ldiv wrote:I believed that "for whom" and "fade to black" had been done by mixing the guitar heroes master tracks, but it's not the case because the tracks are much more rougher than the guitar heros tracks.
