Black Sabbath
"Köln, GER - Konzerthaus"
"1970-03-04" (march 4th)
source: unknown tape, probable fairly low gen
length: 13.02min.
quality: B or B+
notes from the taper ! :
I had long forgotten about this show since I buried at the end of another disc many years ago when I got to borrow a tape where it was included. The tape was obtained way back in the day and when I listened to the show today I was astounded at how clearly all the instruments can be heard. I´m sure there are numerous versions of this show available, but since it´s only two songs I think all you Sab-freaks might give this a go, it could very well be an upgrade of what you have. I´m listening again while writing this and it sounds nothing like an average 1970-recording, it´s way better than that.
The city, venue and date are subject of debate, I know nothing more about it than you do. We do get the FULL Behind the wall of sleep with the jazzy end section, and we DO get the Walpurgis-version of War Pigs which WAS played in early 1970 as per the John Peel-sessions, but I know nothing beyond this.
I hope you will all enjoy it. And, for the record, Behind the wall of sleep MUST be the best Sabbath-song ever!
setlist:
1. Behind the wall of sleep
2. Walpurgis (later re-titled War pigs)
