8. Problem Child
Original transfer from analog master reel to DAT was done circa 1994. DAT
transfer to CDR was done circa 2000. This conversion to FLAC was done in
August 2009.
One of the DAT tapes in the chain contained some slight digital artifacts
in the left channel; they are more noticable towards the end of the
recording.
No equalization or sound manipulation has been done to this recording.
This specific show, although not uncommon, is taken from the master reel to
reel with verified lineage, not from a bootleg or radio broadcast. As the
text file says, no equalization or sound manipulation has been done to this
recording - the original recorded sound is what you get. I'm sure many folks
already have the show in some form or another; hopefully this will be some
sort of upgrade.
The master reel was carefully recorded directly to DAT, and unfortunately
either the master DAT or the second DAT in the chain suffers from some slight
digital artifacts in the left channel. They are more noticable towards the end
of the recording.
The opening track "Live Wire" and the first few seconds of "Hell Ain't A Bad
Place To Be" are missing from the recording; I was told that this is what
exists on the surviving master reel. Other versions exist with the missing
parts taken from an inferior recording of the FM broadcast.
This recording from the master reel also runs at the proper speed, most all
other versions I have heard of this show run fast.
Although the slight digital artifacts exist, The sound quality on this is
excellent. It's a very dry sounding soundboard, much cleaner in my opinion
than the other versions that circulate. It's a great performance, and we get
to hear live renditions of "Kicked In The Teeth" and "Up To My Neck In You".
I believe there are no other live recordings of these two Powerage cuts -
thank god they exist here in glorious soundboard quality!
Enjoy folks!
